There has been a long history of arts and humanities efforts at UCSF, nestled within a larger, national movement towards incorporating arts and humanities into healthcare as an antidote to increased demands, stress, and burnout and declining mental health in the clinical environment.
To unify a community around learner and clinician wellbeing at UCSF, we hope to harness the arts and humanities efforts in our institution towards a journal chronicling the stories of struggle, resilience, innovation, empathy, and social change on our diverse campus.
While many medical school journals currently exist, ours will be unique in that it will include voices from all our health professional schools, thus creating a more inclusive arts and humanities landscape. Moreover, we hope to apply the Prism Model in the development of our journal, which includes mastering skills, building perspective, developing personal insight, and social advocacy through the arts and humanities.
